Absolutely stellar tripod. Literally. For astrophotography it is rock solid and more secure than tripods that weigh twice what it does. It is perfect to travel with and setup is really quick. A really well designed piece of kit.

After checking out many tripods, I kept coming back to 3 Legged Thing for their innovative design and product quality. For my Canon R5 MkII, I needed something stable yet compact and lightweight for travel. I chose the Bucky and was really impressed—would I recommend it? Absolutely, you won’t be disappointed.

A couple of months later, I picked up the 3 Legged Thing Vanz dual ball and spike footwear for shooting on soft ground during landscape or seascape photography, and again, the quality and functionality stood out.

Now I’m just waiting for their upcoming camera strap release.

Are there more stable landscape tripods? Yes, there are. But Bucky isn't one of them. It's a travel tripod. To be precise, a stable as hell travel tripod. If you need a tripod that fits in luggage or can be carried on your back half a day during a city break, waiting for a sunset, then Bucky is your guy. I'm glad I chose it.

Chris

Needed a tripod that would fit into my carry on luggage.
The Bucky first the requirements perfectly.

Now looking at 3 legged thing to upgrade my old landscape tripod

I was very impressed with this Buckley it's amazingly lite but strong as a rock and its dose what it's say on the box compact down to travel

Great tripod system. Whether for astrophotography, backpacking, nature photography, or landscapes, I can always get the configuration I need. Rock solid, lightweight, and dependable.

The single best tripod I have encountered

Bucky is light and yet very sturdy. I have no worries about long exposure and I'm able to take him anywhere. The modularity and variety of configurations is almost overwhelming. I am constantly surprised by what it can do. The other morning I woke up and smelled breakfast being cooked. I live alone. I came to the kitchen and Bucky had made me a full English breakfast. I live in America and it had somehow found proper British bacon. It is that capable.
The construction and use of this tripod is simple and yet so effective. It is clear that the company really cares about a good product that real photographers will use and put a lot of thought into its design. Aesthetics and functionality are perfectly paired in this brilliant tripod.

Exceptionally good

I went back and forth before ordering, as is my way. I'm so glad I went with the Bucky!

The quality of the tripod is obvious the moment you unpack it. It's light, it's tall (yet compact), it's robust. Every part of the tripod is well machined and operation is smooth. I think it'll probably see me out!

I have the additional warm fuzzy feeling of supporting a UK company that obviously cares about it's products.

I could not be happier.

Very Good Quality Tripod

After receiving my Bucky Tripod, I immediately felt that it was worth it, and I knew I made the right decision. Everything about it is of excellent quality — from the packaging to the tripod bag, and of course, the tripod itself. You can really tell that this is a company that puts great emphasis on design and craftsmanship.

Exactly what I was looking for!

The Bucky Tripod is exactly what I was hoping it would be. Quality build and a fair price. Fast shipping and the bonus backpack put it over the top! Thank you 3LT !!

How tall and brilliant

Bought this recently while it was on offer. I already have the Billy 2.0 (and reviewed that a couple of years ago) This is every bit as well designed and solid as Billy if not even more so but has a couple of key advantages. It was purchased primarily to allow me to shoot video over peoples heads (Billy 2.0 isn't quite tall enough for this) and as it packs down shorter than Billy I have now taken it abroad and used it in hot, humid and dusty conditions and it didn't put a foot wrong. Even survived 4 flights in its case in a suitcase in the hold.
Very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend.

Fantastic

For a few weeks now, I have been the proud owner of the 3LT Bucky, and it has fully met my expectations. Upon receiving the tripod, I eagerly unpacked it like a child on Christmas morning. Immediately upon taking it out of the box and handling it, one thing became clear: it is solid. Another positive aspect is the robustness of all the mechanisms, such as the extendable legs with twist locks and the various angles at which you can set each leg. The difference from my previous tripod is substantial. With all the legs extended, you can apply pressure and feel the sturdiness and robustness, even without extending the center column. When the center column was extended, I was pleasantly surprised by the height; I am 1.91 meters tall, and the Bucky still extended far above me with the camera mounted.

The tripod is versatile, well-designed, and easy to use. My first real test was in wind force 6, and my long-exposure photos of 7 minutes showed no signs of movement. Truly impressive. The weight and length for transport are also excellent due to carbon and the 5 sections. Initially, I was concerned that more sections would affect its stability, but my fears were unfounded.

With the Airhed VU attached, it is a joy to work with. The locking mechanism is reliable; the camera with a telephoto lens used to sag, but the Airhed mechanism is smooth. Setting up and using it for panoramic photos is a breeze. Everything rotates smoothly, and locking the position is effortless.

It is almost like a piece of jewelry on your bag, and operating it is very easy. Bucky is versatile and a pleasure to work with. I plan to get the Spikes and the L-Bracket to complete my setup.

Excellent tripod and great paint job!

Whoa! What a tripod. I love buying stuff from Great Britain because the British, for the most part, put quality in as a high priority to their products. Three Legged Thing (heron known as TLT) is no exception. This is my second item from them, I also have the Alan 2.0 Monopod. And it's a beauty!

First of all I bought for utility. The Bucky is large and strong enough to hold my gear.

Second I went for quality. Well above average in the tripod universe the Bucky is.

Third I absolutely love the colour. And that's not a stupid reason because my world is surrounded by black tech! Thank you TLT for a nice paint job.

As far as use goes, this is a sweet piece of engineering. All the parts move smoothly, the legs lock and slide as you expect and it is solid when set up and level. For some tripods I like a centre column and my Bucky has one that moves as smooth as butter. It gets me to the exact height I need.

The twist locks get lots of heat in the tripod business as they are generally annoying. I agree. But, TLT made their twist collars with minimal movement needed so it's a fast operation. And I have to hand it to them, they are very nice grippy collars.

The feet are pretty standard and work very well.

The fittings and latches are perfectly seated, open and close spreading the legs out to lower the whole tripod. Standard, but so well done as they feel solid is use.

The ball head that came with my Bucky is the AirHed Vu. Very simple, very well made. The little window they designed on the chamber allows you to see the inner workings, which are unremarkable. But it's a cool design feature. I mean what else can designer do with ball heads? I'll tell you what I like, I like lights! Yup, I wish there were lights, a display readout or the like, indicating levelling, maybe height from ground, maybe a compass or something to zero in on a horizon. Something cool! C'mon TLT, you guys are on the right track with your radical designs. Do it! You'll sell plenty! I will say the ball head still suffers from camera creep or droop, even with a R7 and medium size lens. But they all do. I find you have to go big on the ball head, big on the Arca plate to alleviate this, and that doesn't get rid of it completely. Geared or Panoramic heads are helpful to solve this issue as well.

Anyways, I love this tripod and ball head. It's kind of a travel, but big. It's kind of a studio but small. So it's a hybrid size. But it's very strong for its size I can say that. And I love the paint job!

Shipping to Canada was via UPS. Yup, gotta pony up the duty and tax. But it was not a slow process (about 3 days)

Highly recommended!

Very versatile bit of kit!!

I love this tripod. It's been so versatile for what i do. As well as being strong & light, its ‘modular' format means i can use it in a variety of ways. Want a monopod - easy! Want a tabletop or short tripod for bird hides - Done! Want a full height tripod - there it is!!!
I cannot fault it. The build quality is spot on too!!!

Superb tripod

Good quality tripod, lightweight and easy to carry and use.

I initially purchased it to have a taller tripod that was also easy to carry and Bucky does not disappoint.
Sure, when fully extended is not as stable as with the center column removed or collapsed, but it is still surprisingly stable and usable.

I love the colors! So refreshing to not be all black!
The AIrHead Vu is fantastic and very precise. Super secure!

The downside it that the center column is a bit difficult to fully tight in place and it is frequently easy to undo the tightening of the airhead to the column, or the twist locks of the column itself.

A True Legend!

I bought the Legends Bucky Carbon Fibre Tripod System with AirHed Vu. It checked off everything that I was looking for in a tripod system. It is light, strong, versatile, very easy to use, and great for on the go travel plus it comes with a quality carrying bag! I have recommended it to all of my photography friends!

Lightweight, sturdy & tall as you like

Bucky is the last travel tripod I'm going to buy. It checks all the boxes. It's lightweight but very sturdy, as tall as I'll ever need and easy to deploy in a few seconds. The build quality means you never need to worry about how much money you're mounting on top of this 3 legged thing, because it's going to be safe. You shouldn't have to choose between build quality and portability, and with Bucky you don't need to.

Brilliant Bucky

This is such a light, strong and simple tripod to use. Even with a equipment weighting 5-6kg there's very little to no movement in the system and for macro photography it's simply brilliant. It's a take anywhere tripod and as with all 3LT products finished to the highest standards. Awesome!!

Gorgeous, Practical & Robust

So, I'm a property photographer - and whilst all my kit is pretty top-notch, my tripod was lacking. My old one was heavy, cumbersome, awkward and due to a fixed central column it meant I couldn't get a low as I wanted for certain shots.

After a lot of research I came across 3 Legged Thing. Immediately I loved the style and aesthetics. However, looks are not everything - it had a practical purpose.

Could it actually be good in the field?

Well, it's a definite yes from me! As I write this, it has already been on a handful of shoots. It is lightweight and easily manoeuvrable (something important when you're trying to squeeze into the corners of a small cottage bedroom). I can get low level arty shots in seconds without having to rebuild the tripod. I can get really high shots too - really good when doing certain exterior shots. Even when extended on the thinnest support pole I can take bracketed shots with no issues. Awesome!

The build quality is fantastic. Feels really solid. Everything feels well engineered. Happy to learn that it is both designed and built in the UK. Solid engineering is what we used to be famous for - with good reason.

Lastly, customer support is amazing. I had a query that was dealt with same day. Exceptional.

great tripod for a trip

I bought a Bucky tripod with AirHed Vu about a year ago, and since then I take it on my every trip. I use it together with my canon camera and Sigma Art 135 mm, as well as with my 10x70 Fujinon binoculars. The great thing about this tripod is that you can take it without any problems for mountains hiking, and once you reach the top, views with binoculars are breathtaking. It is my first carbon tripod and I absolutely love it. Well spent money.

Small Enough to Matter - Strong Enough to Care

I already owned a Winston for my heavy-duty work in places I can get to with my car or at home, but I desperately needed a smaller, lighter, easily portable tripod capable of taking the weight of a pro camera with grip and telephoto lenses with heavy glass. Enter Bucky! Offered as part of an ex-demo deal over Easter it was a no brainer for me. I did my research online online, which is always entertaining. There is something so quintessentially British about the humour of the folks in the chicken shed that keeps me smiling. Bucky promised to meet my needs but would it deliver? Indeed it did and how! It is light as a feather, as compact as you would want, grows to the height of a Giraffe (Well almost) and is as strong as an Ox. I am quite tall at 6'1" and Ray would have had me stooping all the time. Bucky easily allows me eye-level shooting if I raise the centre column a little. By weighting Bucky with my camera bag hooked to the centre column eye, I noticed no movement even though it was a breezy day. Bucky is light to carry and small enough to strap to a backpack in or out of its own case. This alone matters enough to make it my tripod of choice for journeys needed to be made on foot and Bucky is strong enough to handle any load I am likely to put on it with care.

Wowzers!

I stumbled upon 3LT by accident in a photography store in Sedona, AZ USA.
"What magic is this?" I said when I looked at the display models. This light and it holds how much??? That tripod head supports 88lbs???
I can't believe it packs small enough to carry on the airplane yet holds what I need it to, turns into a monopod, transforms into a tiny mini pod that I can mount a scope to, and allows me to do low down macro photography. And that earth bronze/blue color is awesome.
I read the reviews from multiple sources and quickly found out that it is truly as awesome as it sounds.
Winner, Winner, Chicken dinner!
Take my money 3LT, I now have 1 tripod to rule them all...

Exactly what I needed

Purchased as a tripod that you can actually carry around comfortably whilst not sacrificing the height factor. Really nicely made and does exactly what I wanted.

Great for portable work

I bought the Bucky recently as I wanted a lightweight tripod to take out and about. The selling feature for me was that I could also use this as a monopod with my longer lenses.
Really well made, strong and flexible in its use.
Highly recommended!!!!
