Winston 2.0 Carbon Fibre Tripod System

I use the Winston 2.0 for landscape photography. It is light enough to carry in the field, and stable enough to be worth bringing it along. It's my go-to tripod.

Ive had Winston since 2016 and i its been my main tripod ever since. I give it very heavy use and nowadays it supports my heavy digitech equipment on rough terrain. Im please to say it has NOT failed me ONCE! still going strong and gorgeous as ever. Thank you 3LT!

I’ve been using the Winston 2.0 Carbon for a while, and it’s impressively stable. Even at full height the tripod feels solid and doesn’t wobble, even with heavier camera.

The carbon construction feels solid and rigid, yet compared to similar full-size tripods, it’s surprisingly lightweight, making it much easier to carry on tripks. The leg locks are smooth, and the included head is intuitive and really easy to adjust, which makes setup and shooting fast

Cant find a listing for the original Winston which i purchased years ago but sadly is still in excellent condition today, sadly because i would like a new one ! They are really well built , great materials and features and the look fantastic. I got some additional spikes for mine which i leave on for every situation , excellent for planting in soft ground to add additional rigidity. British company and really good customer care, highly recommend them !!

I bought my mark 1 Winston tripod a few years ago, directly from 3 Legged Thing. It’s a great solidly made tripod, which is extremely stable for landscape photography and for nighttime photography too, where the smallest movement will ruin your image. It’s best used with the optional metal spikes, which really help to anchor the tripod and prevent any of the legs from slipping.

As a landscape/seascape photographer, I am very hard on my tripods. But, I imagine the Winston 2.0 is the last tripod I will need to buy. He will well-named—stout, sturdy and reliable in difficult situations. He spends a lot of time at the beach and in the ocean and when he gets a bit “gritty,” I just take him all apart, rinse him off and spray all the bits with dry lube. He is always good-as-new and ready for new adventures. Highly recommended.

I purchased my Winston 2.0 a few years back and treated it badly, sea, ponds, deserts, mountains, snow. I've taken it everywhere with me. It has always been very stable - until it wasn't, then it was time to strip it down and give it a clean, after which it is back to it's normal self.
Mainly due to my abuse, I've had a couple of issues when things didn't work quaite as they should, so I got in touch with 3LT support who were always super helpful and either sent me replacement parts (never anything big) or told me what to adjust/clean in order to get my winston back to tip top working order. Not only a great tripod, but great customer support too!

Simply the best and most sturdy tripod around. Excellent craftsmanship. As an aerospace engineer specialist in composite materials, it's great to see proper carbon fibre used, not the fancy schmancy looking woven types that are cut and purely for aesthetics and lightweighting. The metal hardware is solid and well made to tight tolerances. The disassembly (for cleaning) and customisation is fantastic, as are the feet options (I frequently use the stillettoz). The knurling on the knobs is just the absolute best by a county mile and when I got my hands on one to try, I simply HAD to have it. Smooth, creamy and delicious. The fact that this tripod also is made of two joints rather than 3 makes it even more stable as each joint is a bit bulky.

Their customer service (Neil, talking about you!) are second to none. Orange is also a beautiful colour. And apparently they like chickens...

Coming to the Winston 2.0 from using the Brian 2.0 most of the time, the first thing I noticed was not the height or even the load rating, but the sense of solidity. The Winston feels like a tripod that has been built with very little interest in compromise. It is larger, heavier, and less obviously convenient than the Brian, but in return it gives a feeling of stability that is immediately noticeable.

That is really the heart of it. The Winston feels serious. The thicker leg tubes and fewer leg sections make it noticeably more rigid, and that changes the experience of using it. It sets up with less fuss than I expected, partly because there are fewer locks to deal with, but also because once it is planted it feels properly planted. There is less of that slight awareness you sometimes get with a lighter travel tripod, where you are always a little conscious of working within its limits. The Winston feels as though it has limits far beyond anything I am likely to ask of it.

Using the Brian 2.0 has probably made me more aware of what the Winston does well. Brian is the tripod I reach for because it is compact, easy to carry, and generally convenient to have with me. It fits into the rhythm of moving around. The Winston does not do that in quite the same way. It is bulkier, longer when folded, and more noticeable on the shoulder or strapped to a bag. You feel it. So this is not a tripod that disappears into the background of your kit. It asks to be carried, and you know it is there.

But once in use, that extra bulk starts to make sense. In situations where stability matters, the Winston feels like a real step up. It is the kind of tripod that encourages confidence, particularly if conditions are less than ideal. I can see its appeal immediately for landscapes, long exposures, rougher weather, or heavier camera and lens combinations. It feels less like a general travel tripod and more like a piece of equipment built to hold its ground.

The included head also suits the tripod well. It feels more in keeping with the legs than a smaller travel head would. The overall impression is of a system that has been designed to work as a complete, capable unit rather than just a set of legs trying to do everything. Nothing about it feels under-specified.

That said, the Winston is not perfect, and whether it is the right tripod depends very much on how you work. For me, coming from the Brian, the main drawback is obvious: portability. The Winston is simply less convenient. It takes up more space, it is less discreet to carry, and it would not be the tripod I would casually throw in a bag just in case. With the Brian, that kind of easy portability is one of its greatest strengths. With the Winston, you are making more of a decision to take it with you.

That difference matters because in practice the best tripod is often the one you are willing to carry. The Winston may be the stronger and more stable tripod, and I think it probably is, but there will be times when that extra capability comes at the cost of convenience. For someone who travels a lot, hikes long distances, or simply prefers compact kit, that could become an irritation. It is not that the Winston is too heavy in absolute terms. It is more that it shifts the balance away from portability and towards performance.

Even so, I think that is exactly what makes it good at what it is meant to do. The Winston does not feel like it is trying to please everybody. It feels built for photographers who would rather carry something slightly larger if it means gaining genuine stability and confidence in use. In that sense, it knows what it is.

My overall feeling is that the Winston 2.0 is the better tripod when the tripod itself really matters. If I knew I was going somewhere windy, shooting long exposures, or working with heavier gear, I would trust the Winston more without hesitation. It has that kind of presence. It feels dependable in a very straightforward way.

So, while the Brian 2.0 remains the tripod I would probably use more often simply because it is easier to live with, the Winston 2.0 feels like the more capable tripod. It is less convenient, yes, but it earns that inconvenience by being more stable, more confident, and more reassuring in use. It feels like a tripod for when compromise is the thing you are trying to avoid.

In the end, that is how I would describe it: the Winston 2.0 is not the tripod I would carry everywhere, but it is the tripod I would rather have when it really counts.

I have owned the Punks Billy for a few years and been pleased with it as it is lightweight and sturdy enough for most uses. However I wanted a sturdier option for night landscapes with my Nikon D850 and something that would be quick and easy to set up. With the Winston 2.0, awesome is definitely the word! It is incredibly solid yet surprisingly light and folds down to a manageable size, which is important for me as I'm quite vertically challenged myself! I guess I wouldn't relish carrying it on a 10 mile hike, but then that's not what I bought it for, so not a problem. The fewer leg sections make it quick to set up and those lovely knobs to tighten the legs are really something else - so smooth and solid to use. I bought the bronze model with the Airhed pro as it looks so stylish. I like the versatility it offers too, although I haven't put this to the test yet. I usually find tripods quite awkward things, but the Winston 2.0 is a pleasure to use.

It’s properly stable, the leg locks are confident (even when your hands are cold and your patience is not), and everything about it reads like it was designed by people who have actually used a tripod outside a studio! Hi, needed a full size tripod, as I already had a travel one, so needed the the extra strength and sturdiness. Being 6’3” and suffering from back problems, I wanted a tripod that would allow that extra reach so I could be comfortable when using it stood up. The workmanship and finish appears second to none, the only thing I would change would be to add a soft grip to the top of one of the legs to make it more comfortable to carry out of the bag. And for the price it would be nice to throw in a set of extra feet. But otherwise a great product

I bought the Winston 2.0 because I needed a tripod that was light enough to carry long distances but stable enough for long exposure work. I use it for macro, wildlife and football photography and it has been completely reliable. Despite its low weight it feels extremely solid once set up and remains stable on uneven ground and in windy conditions. The leg release system takes some getting used to but allows for fast setup once familiar. It is tall enough for standing work, capable of low level shooting, and is a genuinely beautiful looking piece of kit that feels built for serious use.

I've got 2 of these, one for my studio and one for on location, and they're great! Very sturdy, lightweight, well made. Highly recommended if you want a rugged, stable platform that doesn't weigh a ton. Also appreciate the maximum height, which I believe is leading class

Fantastic bit of kit handles my big shooter (Sigma 150-600mm) with no problems. Sturdy, well-made and great attention to detail, also love the flexibility when used with vanz as a table top tripod.

What a brilliant piece of kit - for it's size it weighs next to nothing (including the Airhed) & remains rock solid. I took Winston to the Lofoten Islands last year & was so glad I did - this thing didn't move an inch despite gale force gusts. Would thoroughly recommend the Winston Airhed combo.

Awesome...solid as a rock, exactly what I was hoping for. Customer service was brilliant and I also got a a free Toxic Valkyrie bag (M) as part of the deal. the bag is also fab. Winston, Valkyrie and I will be inseparable from now on in. Whats not to love.

Yes, I am confident almost all of us read reviews, weigh price versus features and anticipate usefulness over time for what we purchase. I even tried to save some time in recruiting ChatGPT to dive deep and select me the top three highest rated tripods for a pro quality camera and long range zoom lens to have a quality tripod as I plan ahead. I had only chuckled at ThreeLegged Thing in the past but I am not chuckling any more! This thing is STRONG! Rock solid. I was joking with a friend that Winston can hold up the corner of my house if it was needed! Teamed with the lever release bubble head it all fits nicely into the case. I love my Winston 2.0 Tripod.
I bought it back in early 2022 & it's been a companion for astro, wildlife, landscape & even one wedding shoot, so it's had lots of use.
It's remarkably adaptable, solid & easy to use whilst still being light enough to travel easily.

When looking for additions, support have been there to help confirm what options are supported to make Winston the best dressed tripod that I can.

I've accessorised with Vans for the feet, allowing it to convert from full size down to desktop use - which was handy for macro & flower shots.

And I also got an AirHed Cine to support my heavy 200-600 lens for shooting the moon.
I think the only thing it can do that I haven't used (yet) is to convert to a monopod - I did try it just to prove it can, but I haven't taken it out in that configuration.
